In Tourmaline Falls, wealth comes from the earth, but the price is paid in children. Every year, on the first of July, a man in an immaculate suit arrives to collect his due. They call him The Collector. For seventeen-year-old Ben, the ritual was a distant horror until the day it claimed his best friend. Now, with the appointed day looming, he's hearing the tell-tale sign of the chosen: the ghostly sound of dress shoes on hardwood floors. The Collector is coming for him, but Ben won't be another name on a list. He will unravel the town's century-old pact or die trying.
